Volunteering
IceCats is a parent/volunteer run organization. As part of your commitment to the team, parents are expected to volunteer when their child participates.
IceCats will look to fill each of these committees or roles each fall season. Parents will also be expected to volunteer for one of the committees outside of game day volunteers (coordinating team parties, organizing volunteers, etc) at their choice. The IceCats Volunteer Handbook states that all parents will be expected to volunteer for one of the committees to make the season successful.
Volunteering expectation will also be expected as part of competition (at hockey events, running concessions, clocks, penalty box, score sheets at hosted meets, etc).
Team Managers
Each team (JV and Varsity) requires a manager who will create team and parent building and bonding experiences throughout season. The Manager is a direct liaison with the coaching staff and the hockey director. The manager will be responsible and coordinate the following for the IceCats team they represent.
- The manager is a direct liaison with the coaching staff.
- They will provide communication to the players and parents from the coaching staff.
- The manager will ensure that all score sheets are sent in on time to league officials.
- The manager will be responsible for their player personal files at each game.
- The manager will have the score sheets for each game.
- The manager will have the complete USA Hockey rosters and registration forms required for USA hockey.
- The manager will also ensure that the entire membership has signed up for home and away game day volunteer duties to perform duties of game day clock duty and guard/security for home games and score sheets for all away games
- The manager will find a team parents to host team events such as pizza or pasta parties. One before end of Thanksgiving and another by end of January / early February.
Game Day Volunteers
- Every family is required to help with the details of running a game
- Score Board Operator – depending home or away team
- Score Sheet Operator – depending home or away team
- Security – A MUST – Control our fans and our fans only, do not discipline the opposing fans – find their security and alert them to correct the problem (home and away games)
- Penalty Box Door (possibly away games)
- You are responsible to find a replacement if you cannot fulfill your assignment
Senior Night Volunteers
All parents of JUNIORS will be assigned to this Committee. This event will require the volunteers to coordinate a tribute to the seniors during a Saturday Night Home Game. The committee will work with an appointed board member and set the date, send out invitations, get senior pictures, pick up the senior banners from Studio West, and flowers for parents. Some of the tasks for the Senior night will include having a photographer for family pictures, decorating the rink with posters, pennants, getting a game day announcer, and senior biographies to be read, etc. Usually the event is scheduled MID TO LATE JANUARY on a Saturday night.
Banquet
This five (5) team committee is responsible for organizing the IceCats season ending banquet. The volunteers will work with board and hockey director to set the banquet date, location, and send out invitations. The volunteers will work with the banquet location setting up a contract for location, food and beverages within the allocated budget. The volunteers will provide decorations for the room and tables. The volunteers will order trophies and other awards, as well as arrange for any gifts for any recognition, the coaches, and the audio video team. We encourage parents with players of all ages to volunteer, (FRESHMAN-SENIOR) to volunteer.
Fundraising
This committee is responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating all fundraising activities for the Icecats. The proceeds will be used to support the program and offset costs, including player fees, tournament costs, league fees, and ice costs. There should be atleast one parent from the varsity team and one parent from the JV team on the committee.
Community Give Back
This committee is responsible for finding and organizing activities for the IceCats to giveback to the community. The committee will work with a board liaison for guidance and assistance.
Possible activities:
- Coordinate canned food drive or other donation drives at home games that can be donated to a local organizations
- Have the team volunteer at a local food pantry or food bank
- Participate as a team in Toys for Tots event
